The Pineal Gland's Link To Your Spiritual Growth
There's a little spot at the center of your brain known in physiological scientific terms as the pineal gland.
Nevertheless, spiritual scientists use other terms like Spiritual Eye, the Third Eye, and The Center of Intuition.
As attested by the great sages from ancient times, the pineal gland has more than a physical function. It is the gateway to enlightenment and higher states of consciousness.
What Is the Pineal Gland?
According to the website Mindbliss:
"The pineal gland, also known as the pineal body, is a small pine cone shaped gland that lies deep inside the center of the brain in the epithalamus. It is a part of the endocrine system and helps to regulate melatonin, which is a chemical produced in the brain that helps the body sleep at night. The pineal gland function lies in governing the production of hormones as well as the maintenance of the circadian rhythm, which is essentially our sleep/wake cycle."
Thesleepguru goes into deep detail about the physiological purpose of the pineal gland:
"Starting with sleep, the proper function of the pineal gland is fundamental.
It secretes melatonin, the sleep hormone, in response to the light-dark cycle. It’s regulated by the suprachiasmatic nucleus in the hypothalamus. It controls body temperature, hunger, thirst, fatigue, sleep, and circadian rhythms.
It’s also responsible for producing serotonin. Serotonin is your happy hormone and its functions include regulating mood, behavior and digestion.
Research shows that this gland has photo receptors in it and it’s actually lined with similar tissues as the retina. It also has the same wiring to the visual cortex in the brain as the eyes. There are tiny floating crystals in the pineal gland that vibrate when under pressure and give off light. This is called piezo-luminescence and is well documented in research papers."
Though having a physiological explanation for the presence of the pineal gland is relevant, enlightened individuals know the metaphysical spiritual reason for its existence.
In addition to its biological significance and physical role in the body, the metaphysical purpose of the pineal gland should not be ignored.
Throughout history, numerous sages, seers, yogis, and others have uncovered the enigma of the pineal gland, also referred to as the third eye in spiritual circles.
Some even refer to this wondrous gland as the principal seat of the Soul and the place where all thoughts are created.
Some of you may be wondering if the pineal gland is the soul itself...I do not believe so. However, I would argue that the soul utilizes the pineal gland as a conduit of sorts.
"In his book Kundalini Tantra, Swami Satyananda Saraswati says, “It has also been called ‘the eye of intuition‘, and it is the doorway through which the individual enters the astral and psychic dimension of consciousness. Perhaps the most common name for this chakra is “the third eye”, and the mystical traditions of every age and culture make abundant references to it. It is portrayed as a psychic eye located midway between the two physical eyes and it looks inward instead of outward.”
The informative site thesleepguru outlines various spiritual entities and their interpretation of the pineal gland:
-The Buddhists related it to spiritual awakening.
-The Hindus links it to the third eye which represents intuition and clairvoyance.
-Jesus said that the eye is the lamp of the body and if the eye is clear, your body will be filled with light. His words are in reference to the eye of intuition, the pineal gland, and that this "eye" allows you to perceive things with clarity and truth even as God does.
-In the Book of Revelation, those who bear the mark of the beast on their forehead symbolize the unopened pineal gland and unenlightenment.
As strange as it may seem, there is solid scientific evidence for the way the ancients viewed the pineal gland. In fact, material scientists are now making discoveries that support the miracles of this wondrous gland.
Another site that touches on the metaphysical importance of the pineal gland is Heathline:
The role of the third eye has also been a topic of discussion in parapsychology, which focuses on the study of unexplainable mental phenomena. It is believed by some that the third eye, when opened, serves as a gateway for spiritual communication.
Which includes:
-telepathy
-clairvoyance
-lucid dreaming
-astral projection
-aura perception
The site also includes food suggestions to assist with opening and purifying the third eye chakra including detoxifying elements such as:
-raw cacao
-goji berries
-garlic
-lemon
-watermelon
-star anise
-honey
-coconut oil
-hemp seeds
-cilantro
-ginseng
-vitamin D3
The website does not provide any concrete scientific evidence to support their suggestions. However, from a spiritual perspective, we can understand the metaphysical significance of their claims..
For what it's worth, I do not fully agree with all of the suggestions provided on the Healthline website. For instance, in response to the question "how can one tell if their third eye chakra is open?" the author replied with:
"Once you begin working with your third eye, you’ll begin to receive guidance messages and visions,” she says. “Strive to have the courage to follow through on what your intuition offers and your third eye strength will only grow.”
I wholeheartedly agree with the point about intuition. However, it is important to note that guidance messages and visions may not always be a sign of third eye enlightenment. In fact, they can be quite confusing if one's spiritual journey is not guided by wisdom.
In essence, you should concentrate on being in balance with your higher self. Visions and the like are not the most important, even though these experiences may occur.
In my opinion, meditation is the most crucial step in opening your spiritual eye.
Additionally, some people use chanting to stimulate the pineal gland. It is a personal preference, as some may choose to meditate and chant at the same time. Even though meditation alone is enough.
Don't try to force anything; instead, allow your pineal gland to naturally guide you through your journey of soul awakening. By doing so, everything else will naturally fall into place.
Peace Unto You On Your Spiritual Journey!
