In my view, Autobiography of a Yogi is a treasure. It's not for everyone as it is advanced spiritually; however, it is written for the common individual in simple language. In fact, anyone picking up this book to read simply out of curiosity will be inspired. The content is witty and intelligently written. If you are searching for answers to the mysteries of our existence, you will find that this book will satisfy your curiosity.

The Truth That Sets You Free

When I mention "truth" I don't mean "man's truths" that change with the wind. The truths I'm discussing are in harmony with universal laws. These truths are immutable and once you become more spiritually aware, these "truths" come to us intuitively.


For example, according to universal law, the truth is "we're not a body, we're a Soul." This truth is eternal.. It has always been and always will be. Knowing and understanding this truth makes one less afraid of illness of the body and death.


Another universal truth is that "God is spirit." God is not a man, a very, very old man sitting up in the sky on a gold throne with a long beard meting out orders and cursing one person while blessing another. This concept of God is very elementary and unfortunately, many people don't grow out of this faulty image of "The Creator."


There are many good books that explain the "truth" about God and His universe simply, and with great depth. One such book is God Works Through You by Robert A. Russell. Not only is this a great book of spiritual truths but it's also a wonderful book to refer to time-and-time again for inspiration throughout your journey of self-realization.


Here is an excerpt from the book:


The truth that makes you free is your realization that You are One with God. I and my father are one, and your recognition that your thought is creative. As he (a man - that is you) thinketh in his heart so is he. When you accept the fact that your thought is creative , that the mind which you use is God Mind, you can, by directing your thought, cause the harmony you desire to be objectified in your affairs, your body, and your world.


Why is it necessary for you to gain a consciousness of Truth? Because it is the only way you can be freed from human bondage and limitations. False thinking binds you, but Truth liberates you. It relieves you of all responsibility by bringing God into the center of your Being. Your only responsibility, therefore is to know the Truth - not only when you are in difficulty or have some problem that you cannot solve but without ceasing.


Truth is a way of knowing, living, thinking, and acting.


When you can rise above the human mind with all its misdirected thinking and become the Truth in Action, you will see as God sees, and know as God knows. See what? See the perfect Creation which God pronounced good. Know what? Know that It has never been and never will be anything less than perfect.




Books can help us through our spiritual journey. What's so unique about them is that your connection with the particular book you're reading is solitary. You can digest whatever you're reading without interference and do so at your own pace. You can highlight paragraphs and words that inspire you and refer to them whenever you feel the need to do so. It's a private affair. Which is the way it should be once you devotedly begin your quest for truth.


Just be sure to read from the best authors and know the difference between someone who truly understands spiritual truths and those who fantasize about spiritual truths and have no true understanding because their ego gets in the way. If you are truly sincere, you will know the difference and will not be led astray.
